FuelClear™ M68 Fuel Biocide

Rapid treatment for microbial contamination in small fuel volumes

FuelClear™ M68 is a CMIT/MIT fuel biocide effective across diesel, petrol, heating oil and biodiesel blends up to B50, formulated for rapid treatment of microbial contamination in small fuel tanks.

It controls bacteria, fungi and yeast at low treat rates, making it suited to marine leisure, heating oil biocide treatment and other low-volume applications where simple, effective diesel bug treatment is required.

Compatible with modern fuel systems and available in pack sizes suited to retail and trade supply.

Technical specifications

Active ingredients

FuelClear™ M68 contains a synergistic blend of 5-chloro-2-methyl-3(2H) isothiazolone and 2-methyl-3(2H) isothiazolone (CMIT/MIT) in a 3:1 ratio. This active chemistry rapidly neutralises a broad spectrum of bacteria and fungi responsible for microbial contamination in fuels such as Diesel Bug.

Bottle size

The 250ml single bottle format is designed for convenient, portable treatment of small fuel volumes, ideal for applications such as yachts, home heating systems, and small generators. This eliminates the need for bulk storage or complex handling procedures.

Application method

FuelClear™ M68 should be introduced into a flowing fuel stream via the storage tank inlet to ensure optimal mixing and distribution. For effective treatment, tanks must contain at least 10% fuel volume before dosing, and ideally, the tank should be filled after treatment. It is critical not to dispense the biocide into empty fuel tanks.

Treatment volume

For preventative treatment, a single 250ml bottle effectively treats approximately 1500 litres of fuel (166 ppm). For existing contamination, a curative dose is 333 ppm, meaning one 250ml bottle treats approximately 750 litres of fuel. Dosing should be adjusted based on the severity of contamination and specific fuel conditions.

Appearance

FuelClear™ M68 presents as a clear, colourless to pale yellow liquid. Its formulation ensures consistent clarity and stability throughout its storage life, contributing to reliable performance.

Storage conditions

Store in cool, dry conditions, away from direct sunlight. Sealed bottles should be maintained within a temperature range of 1°C to 55°C in standard storage facilities to ensure prolonged effectiveness.

Regulatory status

FuelClear™ M68 is approved under relevant UK regulations and is REACH compliant. It is specifically formulated and documented for small-scale applications, particularly within the leisure marine sector, with comprehensive technical and safety data sheets readily available.

FuelClear™ M68 Product FAQs

Find answers to frequently asked questions about FuelClear™ M68 treatment and application.

How much does one bottle treat?

A single 250ml bottle treats approximately 1500 litres of fuel at preventative strength (166 ppm) or 750 litres at curative strength (333 ppm). The specific treatment volume depends on the severity of microbial contamination and individual fuel system requirements.

How quickly does M68 work?

FuelClear™ M68 rapidly neutralises bacteria and fungi responsible for microbial contamination and diesel bug. Visible results are typically observed within hours of application, with complete microbial control established within 24 to 48 hours, depending on the initial contamination level.

Can I use it in heating oil?

Yes. FuelClear™ M68 is fully compatible with heating oil systems, including both traditional and biodiesel blends (up to B50). The compact 250ml bottle format is specifically designed for heating applications where microbial contamination can compromise fuel quality and system performance.

Where can I buy M68?

In the UK, FuelClear™ M68 is exclusively available via ASAP Supplies. For international customers requiring sourcing information, bulk orders, or regional distributor contacts, please contact Fuelcare directly.

What is CMIT/MIT chemistry?

CMIT/MIT is a synergistic blend of 5-chloro-2-methyl-3(2H) isothiazolone and 2-methyl-3(2H) isothiazolone in a 3:1 ratio. These proven isothiazolone compounds provide rapid, broad-spectrum microbial control against bacteria and fungi. This chemistry is specifically formulated to deliver fast-acting effectiveness in small fuel volume applications.
