Testing Fuel Quality at Data Centres and the Benefits of Fuel Biocide

The increased use of biodiesel in recent fuelling has come with the added increase in infrastructure testing in modern data centres. 

The corrosion in the storage tank across the Marine, Rail and Offshore industries along with the increase in claims on injector systems has influenced a change in industry standards to how fuel quality is tested at data centres. 

New testing procedures include but are not limited to:

• Testing of fuel filters across all systems.

• Testing for biodiesel content to measure the amount of water in fuel.

• Corrosion inspection across fuel storage tanks. Corrosion at the bottom of tanks is the leading cause of tank failure. 

• Where corrosion is identified, fuel is replaced.

• The installation of fuel polishing systems in diesel systems. 

Contamination across fuel storage systems typically includes the appearance of water which causes several issues including rust, erosion of water pumps, damage to filters and most of all bacterial growth.

Diesel storage tanks infected with bacterial growth will commonly become clogged with sludge and without proper treatment will result in corrosion, poor fuel economy and ultimately fuel pump failure.
